not trying to get your hopes up, but it may be worth asking if DL will do something about your laptop. They may offer you an alternative form of currency (miles or an eCredit)
Not saying it will happen or should happen but of all the airlines I have dealt with DL by FAR has the best baggage issue team. I have NEVER (knock on wood) had a bad experience with them and overall can say they are the best department at DL.
As for the bag yes they should compensate you in cash or replacement bag of the same.
