I am driving from Detroit to Toronto and have NEXUS

My friend asked me to bring a basketball jersey for him from the USA (worth $65). Do I have to declare even if he paid me back and all the tags are on it?

And if I do have to declare can I do it via riding in the NEXUS lanes?
