When we were on a live-aboard dive boat on the Great Barrier Reef, I asked the only Australian couple on board for guidance on what would be an appropriate tip for the diving instructors etc. I have never forgotten the look I got - you would have sworn I had just suggested something unspeakably sordid!

Which, judging from most responses here, is what they really did think of the very suggestion.
