With Global Entry, 99% of the time, they just ask at the exit and wave you on so there is no delay.
I do this frequently and the resulting process varies at different airports - in YYZ I was sent into secondary after collecting my bags, stood in line for quite a long time, in the end the agent was a bit annoyed I was declaring chocolates and jam. At YVR, you go from the kiosk to an agent right away (before bag collection) and they ask a couple questions, easy peasy.
I recall seeing a thread where people lost Nexus over gum, but that's weird, that's neither food (consumed) nor a product of meat, grains, dairy etc. But I am no authority on the matter!!
