Well, the 777 engines are already that large. But no the 797 is a 757/767 replacement. The engines won't need to be that large. So no scraping of the tarmac required.
That's good. Tarmac-engine-scraping tends to be bad for overall aerodynamics. It's something designers typically try to avoid.

I flew on a 717 from GRR to DTW a few weeks ago.
I read a story recently about how airlines love the 717 and wish they could get their hands on more of them. I still don't quite understand why this type failed so badly when it was first released. Was it something to do with the airframe itself, or more about how RJ's were classified differently in union negotiations and whatnot? (Making them cheaper to operate than a 717.)
