I'm a little confused by the wording of terms on Amex's 5X points... can anyone shed some light?
Thinking about booking a Disneyland Hotel stay (California) in October. I see I can qualify for 5x points on AmexTravel with my Platinum card. The question I have is when do I get charged for the stay and when do the points (usually) post? It mentions zero due at hotel and if you read the terms of the stay it mentions 5x points are only awarded on prepaid stays. It however also mentions free cancellation up to like 3 days before the stay or something. I'm not used to prepaid stays having such generous cancellation periods, and I've never booked via AmexTravel before. It also mentions for the business platinum card that bonus points post like 10+ weeks after the purchase, but doesn't mention anything about personal Platinum, which is what I have.
So.... if I purchased today, would I see an Amex charge for the total cost of the hotel stay post within a couple days? Would the 5x bonus points post within a couple weeks or at least by the closing of the statement? The points would push me over the limit to being able to transfer enough off to Delta to cover my F flight and I wouldn't have to buy any SkyMiles, so I would like to make use of that and figure I'm planning far enough out that I should be able to wait a couple weeks if I need for points to post...
What I DON'T want is for a charge to show up 3 days before travel or something and then points to post a week or two after my stay... I may still consider booking with AmexTravel, but I wouldn't bank on my points covering my full flight...
