What do you mean by "layover"? You cannot have a connection of more than 24 hours in SYD or the award will be split in two.

I wouldn't mind stopovers in either SYD or HKG (though I've been to both several times and these are not the cheapest places for hotels, even for a few nights) but I thought they eliminated that benefit.
