Thanks for the update. It's been years since I checked this hotel out. Back then, it was one of the worst in the FS chain and it sounds like it is retaining that characterization. The only good hotel in Sydney must remain the Park Hyatt -- which knows it and is able to get away with overpricing as a result.
PH is clearly still the leader.
I recently stayed at the Intercontinental in Double Bay and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. Of the hotels generally preferred by this board it most reminded me of the Langham in scale, decor and atmosphere. I didn't take any pics so don't think it's worth a full review but for those who don't need/want to be based in the CBD (or are specifically looking to be located in the eastern suburbs) it is definitely worth considering. Double Bay is about ten minutes by car from the CBD and also convenient for airport access.
