You can also book upgrades BEFORE their expiry for use AFTER the end of your elite year, but you cannot make any further changes once the upgrade certificates have expired.

I thought these "certificates' were like the (to me, useless) e-vouchers Lufthansa hands out then rips away two years later, so I never gave them much attention.
There's talk of "certificates", but i'm guessing these don't exist outside figurative use. There's not even any mention of upgrade instrument on my profile page, sonI'm not sure how to keep track of them. At leas Lufthansa logs the arrival of e-vouchers and they are displayed prominently on profiles.
