The bigger news, also found in this article, is that Waldorf Astoria will be opening a hotel in SF. I had lunch with some Conrad and WA sales reps the other day ... and apparently the hotel will be part of a new build in the Embarcadero area of San Francisco.
Will Waldorf Astoria over the long-term think about spinning off some of it's less impressive properties (particularly the non-WA "branded" names that seems like they just slapped on the WA name to) that aren't up to what a five-star/diamond, top-tier brand/chain should be in order to try to get consistent portfolio across the WA brand that might compete with the FS, RC, PHs of the world? Maybe doing a "Luxury Collection" line that could take some of those properties?
