I've tried to get this answer from the SPG support line but couldn't, either because they didn't know or it was not decided at that point.
My situation:
I joined SPG in 2015 and have over 250 llifetime nights.
2015 - Plat
2016 - Plat
2017 - Plat
2018 - Gold
2019 - I am on my way to qualify for gold (this year I've stayed 17 nights already but have other trips planned which would comfortably get me over the 25 needed)
Under the current SPG rules, I should be LTG as soon as I hit 25 nights this year, right? I mean I already have 4 nights of elite status and will be qualified for the 5th. In the wiki at point B1 it says that you can qualify for LT status under the current rules.
I guess what I'm trying to find out is where I'll fit in the new program...

Based upon what you have provided here, you would be Lifetime Gold in the new program if you go on to meet the qualification for Gold in SPG through December 31, 2018.

I may be confused, but does this imply that the initial qualification year counts double? That is, for HNS, qualifying in 2015 for the remainder of 2015 and for the 2016 program year. If HNS first joined in 2015, by 12/31/18 there can be at most 4 years with sufficient qualifying stays (2015-18), but 5 years of resulting membership benefits (2015-19).
And if so... I'm trying to count my elite years on the Marriott side, will the same approach be followed there?
