In that case, no brainer, take the Double Tree and save yourself $450 over the course of your stay. They are effectively about two long city blocks away from each other. The Double Tree will have better security, it's next to the high school which if they have band practice before school like they used to might be an issue, and you can still walk easily to Santa Monica Pier and everything else that I mentioned above.

And the Double Tree is a Hilton property if you are a member of their loyalty program. Shore is an independent and has none as far as I know.
