The pizza in Rome is great. There is a lot of fine food in Venice, so no need to lower your expectations (well, except for pizza). When my children were younger (& even as they got older) they enjoyed Vino Da Gigio very much. It was family friendly and the food is quite good with a nice variety. Reservations are necessary. Dress is very casual as is the restaurant.
