No, you just need to do 100 Starwood nights by December 31, 2018, to get Platinum 100 through Feb 2020. The $$ requirement is only if you are trying to get to 100 by combining SPG and Marriott nights for this year. Starting January 1, 2019, to requalify you will need to reach the $20,000 and 100 nights.

Joke aside, as an all leisure traveller, i really really really hope that the AMB tier would be darn worth the 20K spend requirement. Say good-bye to BRGS! And they ought to include the cash component of C&P as part of the 20K spend. Cat 6 is 180$ + 10K. thatll be a waste if that is not counted...
And what about SNAs? Use all 10 from 2017 and 10 from 2018 this year or before August?
