By way of post-script, the VS Twitter team have now replied.
It seems this sort of booking is no longer possible using the website, and has to be made by calling in.
Not the end of the world I suppose, but if the choices are being on hold and then having to discuss dates, prices etc and simply buying PE on the AA website....
