Agreed. I was sharing as a counterpoint to those who mentioned that MH outstations do sometimes check through to non-OW flights, in a case where the second flight’s ticket was issued by MH.
(Not to mention, this was a MH-codeshared flight which is available from MH as part of NRT-KUL-SIN on a single ticket/PNR.)
On the other hand, this was Japan, as against Thailand, Indonesia, etc...
Regardless, if the second flight was on MH metal or another OW carrier, I’d have made sure they checked the bag through.
