You can change the date for free. There's a fee (waived for Exec Plat) to redeposit the miles.

Any account activity resets the expiration counter, giving you a brand-new 18 months (or whatever it is nowadays). You can see your expiration date when you log in to AA.com.

Suggestion: change the dates of the existing tickets, instead of redeposit and rebook.
