DCA gets bad due to the high concentration of HVCs, and the limited terminal space. The real issue at that club is probably Amex Plat swipes, but DL can't start excepting certain clubs from that program (even though I wish they would at DCA). This is especially relevant now that DL offers D1 service from DCA.
They should block off a few tables at DCA for D1 customers, like Amex does at Centurion lounges for black card holders.
Delta should treat American Express platinum cardholders the same as many lounges in high traffic airports treat Priority Pass cardholders: limit access during certain hours of the day.
I get that Delta makes a lot of money from its relationship with American Express, but American Express has its own competing lounges now. Plus, American Express won't allow Delta-branded American Express cardholders into its lounges.
