Not really.... you'll need to cancel, and then change to SUB-CAN one way, and HKG-SUB another one way.
Is it an Asia Miles redemption? If yes, you can pay the USD 100 or 10000 Asia Miles fee to change the ticket, and you may be refunded the China Airport Fee but you will have to pay the HK Departure Tax (roughly the same). If not, it depends on the rules of the airline program you used to redeem.
I don't think this is totally correct, since it implies all the OP needs to do to fix the problem is pay the difference. Correct me if wrong but I don't think he/she can do that so easily.
The reason is, I presume the OP bought SUB-CAN round trip award. That is a certain number of miles. To change the ticket, the agent will need to cancel the existing ticket (charging what you say), but cannot hold on to the award availability....at least not guaranteed. If the OP is GO or DM maybe with some kicking and screaming it can be achieved. But I don't think there is any guarantee if you cancel the round trip those segments he wants will be immediately available for one way award redemption. Don't they go back to revenue management?
IF the OP can do what is said above, then he/she will still owe the extra miles for two one ways (higher amount), instead of a round trip. Because CAN is not HKG! One way will be SUB-CAN and the other HKG-SUB. You can't just loophole your way to round trip award pricing for what are different city pairs. Otherwise everyone on this board would be utilizing the loophole left and right and round trip awards wouldn't exist.
