I'm not so sure I agree that the tracking is all that different. In both cases it depends on browser cookies being set and maintained properly throughout the shopping experience. There are LOTS of ways that breaks. And in either case a broken transaction won't get you the points. One has a 3rd party in the middle but the general tracking is nearly identical.
