That's exactly what I did today. Since I haven't been using mine for travel or for paying for Japanese iTunes or anything, there was no reason to hang around 3 more months and have "closed by credit grantor" appear on my report. Called the number on my card and was connected very promptly to a very nice rep who canceled it right away. She did ask at the very end why I was cancelling it though! I just said the obvious truth, 'because I heard it was being terminated anyway'!

I'm sad that when I get to visit Japan I won't be able to count on having this card for its reputed best acceptance rate, but hopefully Visa or Amex acceptance will be good enough! Either way, I have no choice in the matter.

I won't miss the fact that in 2018 they still didn't have an online account management, or even payment, website. That one was a real head-scratcher. I'm starting to feel old, but ever since I was old enough to have credit cards, I've had online account access for all of them from the very beginning. JCB was definitely in a 25-year time warp in that way!
