For non-AA OW elites (emerald, sapphire, ruby): No to same day confirmed. Yes to same day standby. https://www.aa.com/i18n/plan-travel/...day-travel.jsp

Unfortunately, Mexico does not typically qualify for same day changes or standby (only Canada, US, Caribbean, and the JFK-LHR route) . You may still be able to get onto a standby list on the agent's discretion.
