I purchased an I fare JFK to LAX, and upgraded using a BXP1. If I got to JFK early, and there was ample space in F (A inventory or not), would they move me to an earlier flight? Or would I need to technically waitlist? I'm imagining that there would be open seats in F that they know they won't sell, but not sure what their policy or their system allows them to do in the couple hours before departure.
Would be done by gate agent in my experience. Was booked in Y on I fare JFK-SFO with J available but not I. Check-in agent removed me from upgrade list (placed there by aa.com) and placed me on standby list. Confirmed around same time upgrade list was processed.
