I ran into this issue at the Sheraton Grand Hiroshima a few weeks ago. I did not bring the card with me (just had the personal card on me). Offered to pull up my AMEX account on my IPad to show her I had the card, when she relented and gave me access. This hotel also holds the distinction of being the only one to have staff approach me as I stood in the elite checking line to be sure I was really elite.
