In today's world of advanced information technology, "big data", etc. it should be easy to have a dynamic program that separates premium flyers. Benefits such as "if you are MPO Gold and C class flyer, you get additional....." One size fits all is one of the true problem of any program.
I work the software industry for large MNCs. Airlines, like the industry I'm in, deal mostly with legacy systems made in the 80s and really just offer what we call lipstick on a pig.
There's a funny quote on big data out there:
"Big data is like teenage sex; everyone talks about it, nobody really knows how to do it, everyone thinks everyone else is doing it, so everyone claims they are doing it"
It'll be.. another 10-15 years before airlines can even start offering personalized experiences. They still print off passenger manifests on dot matrix printers... that should say something about how far behind the airline industry is.
