Beyond just this issue, I've even found it impossible to get some SQ sectors in. For some reason, there is plentiful availability on BKK-SIN in saver Y/J on SQ metal for the flights I need connecting from ET, but once I tell the agent I am doing it as part of the larger itinerary, they say there is no availability on the BKK-SIN married to the existing SIN-LAX award I have. So I am forced to TG. And it's not just one flight - it goes from every flight being open in both cabins, to waitlist-only across the board. It's just bizarre.
This reminds me of a few years back at pre-merger United, where you could accomplish some truly creative routings but it was like pulling teeth.
Its a married segment issue. If you are adding on SIN-BKK to your SIN-LAX, then the system will search for availability in BKK-SIN-LAX pool, not just BKK-SIN pool.
Similarly, *A award sectors with some SQ sectors, they will come out from a different pool of availability compared to a pure SQ metal booking.
Frustrating sometimes but thats the way it goes.
