I find this all rather strong fearmongering. LAX-AMS is on average early and very rarely late. OP is front-plane, first-off, in J (very very first off) and can make the connection in I would guess anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes (30 if you were to walk at an extremely deliberately slow pace).

An hour is fine.
