How early can I request an upgrade to the CORRECT cabin on an AP ticket?

I've got an international AC flight on Jan 4th that was booked into PE due to availability of rewards, but the rest of my itinerary is in J. There has been no availability in J on AP, so I may need to do the upgrade directly with AC. What is the earliest I could call and get the upgrade? T-7? T-1?
