Coastal routes, at least anecdotally, are far easier. I was SFO-based until recently, and I've been on plenty of SEA-SFO/SJC/LAX flights (including multiple Sunday evening flights) where there were so few elites that F went out with seats empty. Anything other than Monday morning and Thursday evening and you've got a great shot.
