Here is what I want to do (can this even be done?)

Flying the new airbus 321 with coach/extra comfort/first class.

I want to:
Book 2 round trip coach seats and use my 50% off companion voucher.
Then use my hawaiian airlines miles to upgrade to first class (bypassing extra comfort).

Concerns:
1. Using miles to upgrade when using a 50% companion voucher for the base ticket.
2. Upgrading to First. Per the upgrade chart it states 25k miles needed. Does it matter if you are coming from a coach seat or an extra comfort seat?
