HELP -Using HA miles to upgrade

Here is what I want to do (can this even be done?)

Flying the new airbus 321 with coach/extra comfort/first class.

I want to:
Book 2 round trip coach seats and use my 50% off companion voucher.
Then use my hawaiian airlines miles to upgrade to first class (bypassing extra comfort).

Concerns:
1. Using miles to upgrade when using a 50% companion voucher for the base ticket.
2. Upgrading to First. Per the upgrade chart it states 25k miles needed. Does it matter if you are coming from a coach seat or an extra comfort seat?

Thanks

You should still be able to upgrade to First with miles if you used the companion voucher. Extra Comfort is not considered a class, it's an optional add-on to coach. Class upgrades are always directly to First, regardless of whether you're in Extra Comfort. So if you know you'll be upgrading, don't buy Extra Comfort.

Please report back with your opinion of the 321 F cabin. Thanks!

Thanks for the information.

We have previously flown this route (321 F) in first class and really like it. Looking at our next trip to do the same.

No you haven't. Hawaiian's first flight on the A321 isn't until January 8.

Yeah, My goof, I meant we had flown the A330. Per HA website they are still showing the A330 for August 2018 SFO-OGG flights.

Did I miss something. Will HA be switching from the A330 to 321 (for SFO to OGG?) I thought the 321 would replace the existing west coast 767 fleet?

Thanks

Chris

The A321 will probably be replacing some A330 routes as well. Not sure about SFO-OGG though.
