There have been limited reports of "regular" Y pax getting an offer to upgrade to E+ for free at check-in.

But I don't think this has changed the basic model, which makes BE seat assignment a total roll of the dice, with one of the potential outcomes involving a free E+ upgrade while those who paid more keep their E- seats.
