Feel sorry for those on long haul flights from Asia and the US needing refuelling stops (in Australia and Pacific respectively, I presume). Nothing to do with airnz, but the country looks pretty foolish not to have a redundant back up for this critical infrastructure.
I am no aviation expert but think it could have something to do with 2 x take off at full weight, the fuel that requires, plus the requirement to carry enough fuel to divert to a different airport etc etc.
Flying 6 hours in 1 flight might consume less fuel?
Just now waiting for an election promise to build a second pipeline. The Government will spend up for the private fuel companies who gouged consumers!
