I would agree. FAs are quite sympathetic to pax with a "close call" connection.
In such situations it is best to travel with only a carry on and show the CSD (preferably) a copy of your e-ticket for the connection flight - even if it is not a OW flight.
Many cabin crew are understanding - but it is always good to involve the CSD..
