I stand by not flying MH though. They were flying over the Ukraine when most other airlines were deliberately avoiding it. Sure the specific incident was unprecedented but why take that risk?
Singapore 2 minutes ahead on the route.. Virgin behind.
No one thought they were in danger or route wouldn't have been planned.

MH likely had one suicidal individual.. (as has Egyptian, Silk air, ect... it happens) and one stroke of fate. They operate daily into difficult airports in Asia without incident.
I don't work for them or have anything to do with them.. but they are a safe carrier.
