No fixed rules but what you say sounds right. i guess most tip 10% or so.
I rarely take taxis these days. Uber has changed the dynamics and is usually quicker and cheaper, at least for us. Pity that the tipping option almost certainly means an overall cost increase.
For airport runs (we're in the suburbs within the M25), we normally use a local minicab company if with bags or the Underground if with hand baggage. The minicab company is much cheaper than taxis and Uber and, yes, we tip.
