2) boarding delays at gate. This is the bigger reason. Unless I need overhead bin space, I always try to arrive at the gate 15-20 mins before departure, aka one of the last passengers to board.
Wouldn't you rather sit in the gate area and catch up on some wifi or 4G data? That's how I usually pass gate waiting time
