Have a flight to the US coming up. All booked in J, and Y is showing zeros already, so that bodes well for an op up.... except for the dreaded (for op ups at least) child on my wife's PNR...

EDIT: apparently it will depend on the circumstances of the flight - if they need say, 3 pax, they might (might!) give it to all 3 on the Plat pax's PNR. If they only need 1 and that's you, you will probably be invited to use miles to upgrade the rest of your party.
Space permitting of course - the upgrade list is not set in stone like say, US carriers.
