The other problem is accountability. US airlines are accountable with service and timeliness due to US regulations and are penalized if regulations are not met. The USA regulation for "No restrooms" (in an airline lounge) and "inattentive ground and flight crew" is of interest. And others.
The Eu has regulation EU261 on timeless (or lack thereof) due to airline operations.
USA airlines are exempt when they fly into Eu. They would end up paying mega $$ if Eu261 applied to them.
