That's not at all unusual behaviour, as Kacee mentioned. Airlines like Air Canada don't update status on their tickets, for their own elites. It was a well known issues that if you reached a higher level, and already had a ticket, you would need to call AC to have them remove and then readd your FFP for status changes to take effect. A loophole that some people used the other way too, avoiding touching their tickets at all if they had lost status... Although they globally updated on March 1st (when AC's elite year restarts).
In the past I've gone to a UA/AC counter if available, and asked them to print out my account status on a sheet for proof, or called UA. However if you encounter a stubborn agent... You're kinda SOL.
