I'm totally confused about this arrow thing as well. I have four flights, three on a 772 and one on a 789. According to the seat maps, on the 789 shows an "arrow" of sorts, which the legend indicates is rear facing. The AA site shows all the 772 without any rear facing, but Seat Guru says there should be rear-facing.

I think I figured it out. Sorry for the poor picture, but see below:
That's a 772 on AA136 on 12/14/17. Per the seatmap below, the seats with the triangle indent, AKA arrow, are the rear facing ones. If there is no triangle on any seats, then there are no rear facing seats, so you can assume the B/E seats.
