Absolutely right. The flight needs to be operated by either A3/OA in order to earn 'one flight credit', level miles plus award miles, or, operated by a star alliance partner to earn level miles plus award miles.
Unfortunately Etihad doesn't fall into either category and would therefore earn zero miles.
One other thing to keep in mind is that with codeshares the actual booking class of the operating carrier, is not always the same as the marketing one. E.g., the LH flight booked under A3 flight number may be listed as Aegean class X, however the operating LH flight may be actually in Lufthansa class Y. The flight will earn according to LH Y class in this example.
