You'd think the x-rays at the checkpoint would show something fishy if the battery has been tampered with significantly. Yeah, I know, screeners aren't experts in laptop design, but surely a software update to the x-ray machines themselves could call out laptops which seem to have oddities regarding the battery or removable disc bay (really the only two places you could put a bomb, and a lot of laptops don't even have a disc bay any longer, either).

Flag them for extra scrutiny and swab them for ETD. Yeah, we hear they've been practicing removing traces and sealing the explosives up to block new traces, but come on; we're talking tech that can pick up a few molecules and alarm.

Doesn't even require all electronics be inspected. And if they want a closer look at my SLR lenses, have at it; it would be an impressive explosive that you could see through like a lens.
