Answer: Yes, the NFL overbooks...As does every major sport that sells tickets in advance. Standing Room Only.
Last year's Indianapolis 500 was overbooked by more than 100,000!!!
Movie theaters, by contrast, are generally a walk-up crowd and that's not a good comparison to businesses that sell seats days or weeks in advance.
Nice Restaurants, by contrast, will over book table reservations. Restaurants have a HORRIBLE no-show percentage for reservations, and will often overbook by as much as 50%. Some now charge a booking fee, which is forfeited for late/non arrivals.
