The check-in is a red herring. For BA to offload you from their own flight at their own hub takes a few keystrokes.
I would add that you don't have a two hour deadline here. Your re-ticket deadline is one hour before the next flight you intend to take. But to avoid the no show penalty, you should get BA to cancel your onward reservation as soon as you land. You don't need to finish re-ticketing though.
By the way I think you will have to go landside (to the ticket desk in Zone A of the T5 check in area) to get this done. But, unless you have an EU passport or Registered Traveller, to avoid the no show penalty, it may be worth going to the ticket desk in the connections area first. You can announce your intention to change flights there and ask them to offload you. If they suggest going to Zone A, I would ask them to confirm the no show penalty will not apply in the event you are delayed getting through customs.
