I've never had a problem with 2 adult, 2 kids (<12) in standard room at any of the tokyo, hakone, Kyoto without "sneaking." I would let them know ahead of time. As a diamond/globalist, I find that it may give me preference to be upgraded to a larger room when available, but YMMV.
