I found it to be the most 'atmospheric' and 'homely' of the hotels in San Francisco that I stayed at and visited - despite the small lobbies, rooms etc.
When Raymond Bickson was ousted as MD from Taj, they have had a series of people in charge - one of whom wanted to sell off Taj's US properties. There has since been another Taj coup, so no idea what the view is now at Taj regarding the US, but I doubt anyone is rushing to spend money on those properties.
