More of the former. These days the hardware is cheap and doesn't cost the hotel a whole lot. I guess I'm really trying to encourage hotels to give up on cable and phone services. Who needs them this day and age? Or I'd like to have some bonus points please, only possible if it means cost savings for the property, which I doubt.
As cordcutters at home, my wife and I look forward to cable TV when we travel.
Phone service, I more understand, but remember that international guests may not have local SIM cards, and the phone will be installed for guest services anyway. For a while, a lot of hotels were charging even for local calls, then wrapped it into the 'resort credit'. They could remove it again but they won't drop the resort credit by even a nickel.
