Yes, there are tons of OW members plying the routes but it is not easy to figure out which routing would work with which carrier(s). It is definitely more complicated to figure out than the more basic transit in Middle East.
I have had zero issues booking MH or CX from Australia to Europe as long as it complies with the fare rules
e.g. have booked SYD-KUL-LHR, MEL-KUL-LHR, MEL-HKG-LHR, CBR-MEL-KUL-LHR and SYD-HKG-LHR
What has not been permitted are things like SYD-MEL-KUl-LHR since MH does not permit the routing
In post 1965 - routing HBA-MEL-ADL-HKG-BKK was not permitted - which would not seem to be much of a surprise and irrelevent to South Pacific to Europe
