Is that 100% equivalent though?

I can believe that, if you don't have verified passport info in your Delta account, you will always be asked to verify at the airport, which manifests as not being able to check in online or obtain an electronic boarding pass.

But if you DO have verified passport info in your profile, can you then at least sometimes (randomly, or a few times until they want to re-verify it periodically?) print your own BP or use an electronic BP? Or do you still have to check in with a gate agent at least before boarding?
